Wastebasket Revue: Osseo Area Schools variety show and scholarship program

Wastebasket Revue: Osseo Area Schools variety show and scholarship program

For more than 50 years, Osseo Area Schools employees have put on an annual variety show to raise money for scholarships to assist graduating students in their post-secondary plans. Some of the performers have been involved since the original show in 1967, and coming back year after year keeps them young at heart. This year, the performers say “Game On!” and invite the community to attend the upcoming shows in April.

Kidstop instructor Amy Goettl serves on the Wastebasket Revue Board of Directors and leads the danceline. Goettl was a student at Osseo Area Schools, and she remembers growing up watching her teachers participate in the variety show.

“I enjoy the fact that I get to be on stage with my sixth grade teacher Ms. Wilson who has been in the show since the beginning,” said Goettl.

This rich history and impact brings people back, and though the COVID-19 pandemic closed the curtains on 2020, the crew made a transition to host a virtual show in 2021.

“We have worked really hard to keep this tradition alive and continue to support the students in this district,” Goettl continued.

Since 1957, Wastebasket Revue has been able to raise more than $1,329,500 and has given at least 900 scholarships. This year, 23 students from Maple Grove, Osseo and Park Center Senior High Schools have been selected.
