Osseo Area senior high schools nominate six students for the Minnesota State High School League’s Triple ‘A’ Award each year, two students from each senior high school in the district. This award honors high school seniors who have a 3.0 or better grade point average and participate in Minnesota State High School League-sponsored athletics and fine arts activities.
This year’s nominees include: Christopher Frantz and Avery Toms from Maple Grove Senior High School (MGSH), Emma Houfek and Brock Weum from Osseo Senior High School (OSH), and Hannah Cashman and Sean Le from Park Center Senior High School (PCSH).
Maple Grove Senior High School
Christopher Frantz
Christopher Frantz currently holds a 4.05 GPA and has participated in soccer, where he held the role of captain this year, band, and the Crimson Winds ensemble group.
“My soccer coach continuously taught me how to conduct myself with strength and integrity,” Frantz said. “Being in the band gave me exposure to many different perspectives. I grew as a leader by learning how to give direction, coach others, and how to take suggestions and implement them into my leadership.”
Avery Toms
Avery Toms has spent her high school career participating in soccer, Crimson Winds, Link Crew, National Honor Society, Green Club, and Yoga Club. She has a 4.13 GPA.
Toms said that being involved in activities and athletics has helped her to be resilient and appreciate the uniqueness of each person.
“I have grown to be a more independent and resilient person by learning that mistakes are necessary, and excellence doesn't necessarily mean perfection,” Toms said. “I am forever grateful for all the incredible people I have met and the people who push me to be my best self every day.”
Next year, Toms plans to study Environmental Geoscience and play division 1 soccer at the University of North Dakota.
Osseo Senior High School
Emma Houfek
OSH senior Emma Houfek has played an active role in her school as part of the girl’s cross country team and the dance team. She is also a member of the school’s pottery club.
Brock Weum - OSH
OSHs Brock Weum has kept busy in high school as a member of the boy’s swim and dive team, a drummer in the school band, and as an actor in school musicals and plays.
Park Center Senior High School
Hannah Cashman
PCSH senior, Hannah Cashman, has spent her school career playing cello in the orchestra and participating in girls swim and dive, golf, and the nordic ski team.
“I have focused on being a positive role model and leader for others, whether officially in a leadership position or not,” Cashman said. Her commitment to encouraging younger swim teammates to try new things led her to join nordic skiing for the first time as a senior.
Cashman's swim coach, Robin Thorsen, said she embodies leadership traits such as care, selflessness, communication skills, encouragement, and a strong work ethic.
“Hannah has and will continue to be a leader in all the communities she is a part of,” Thorsen said.
Cashman plans to attend Bemidji State University next year to study business administration and finance.
Sean Le
PCSH senior, Sean Le, has been an active participant in band, including jazz band and marching band, along with playing tennis and managing the girl’s tennis team during his high school years.
“I’ve sought to help people where I could, encouraging and facing challenges with them,” Le said.
After high school, Le plans to study computer science at either the University of Minnesota or Macalester College.
