Park Center Senior High School to perform Les Misérables musical March 1-9

Park Center Senior High School to perform Les Misérables musical March 1-9

Park Center Senior High School has taken on a hefty lift for its spring musical this year with the show Les Misérables, the Tony Award-winning musical that has been a mainstay of many theater scenes since the 1980s.

“If you choose this show, you have to have the singers who have the stamina and musical ability to pull it off,” said director Kate Kallevig. “It’s not for the faint of heart.”

Les Misérables is set in 19th century France and centers on the story of Jean Valjean, a peasant and former prisoner intent on starting his life anew and eventually getting caught up in a revolutionary uprising in the early 1830s.

Some of the main characters in the musical include junior Adrian Lawson playing Jean Valjean, senior Mouchee Thao as prison guard Javert, senior Iiman Hersi as Fantine, and junior and foreign exchange student Gracia Dominguez as Eponine.

Not only do the students serve as actors, but they also perform the roles of set design and construction, sound, lights and pit orchestra.

In addition to the traditional high school cast, the show includes a few child actors as young as third grade from the local community.

“The story alone is an awesome reason to come and see the show,” Kallevig said. “It’s a story of redemption, revolution, human kindness and love. The battle scenes are interesting to watch and the comedic relief that the Thenardiers supply brings a glimmer of humor to the story.”

Park Center Senior High’s Les Misérables will premier March 1 at 7 p.m. and will run at these additional times:
March 2 at 7 p.m.
March 3 at 3 p.m.
March 7, 8 and 9 at 7 p.m.

Tickets are $8 for adults and $6 for students and seniors. They can be purchased at the door via cash or card.
