With summer break just around the corner, Garden City Elementary School partnered up with a few organizations to help keep their scholars reading even when school is out.
This fall, the school partnered with the nonprofit foundation Busload of Books on an author/illustrator visit and book giveaway. Now, the Build-A-Bear Foundation has partnered with Busload of Books to donate a “reading buddy” to each of the school’s scholars. On May 26, school leaders surprised each student with a Build-A-Bear reading buddy for them to take home, plus a packet of books from the school’s learning support team.
The students were escorted, one classroom at a time, to a room filled with an enormous pile of stuffed bears. They were able to select a bear and pack of books and pose for a photo before returning to their classrooms to test out their reading buddies.
