Students at Cedar Island Elementary School recently participated in a fun run, raising funds for various Parent Teacher Organization (PTO) programs at the school. The fundraiser was kicked off with an all-school assembly the week prior.
Each class was assigned to wear either red, blue or orange. The students dressed up in their color the week leading up to the fundraiser, including during the fun run. Students competed as teams against the other colors, and also competed as classes against each other to raise the most funds.
On the day of the fun run, students were ready to go despite occasional sprinkles of rain. The school’s music teacher, Mr. Wolf, kicked off the event by leading the students in the national anthem. Staff and family members cheered on the students as they ran, and the students all received medals when they completed the run.
The students raised $41,478 total, which was $11,478 above their goal set at the beginning of the fundraiser. The blue team was the winning color, with the classes wearing blue raising more than the classes wearing red or orange. Ms. Kolb’s kindergarten class raised the most, totaling $2,863.
