Park Brook Elementary School invited CCX Media to its recent all-school assembly and Double Dutch demonstration, where the school’s after-school Double Dutch team showed off the skills they have been learning while raising money for the American Heart Association.
The school’s Double Dutch team is just one facet of many in the school’s Focus on Fitness credo. Teachers have their students take a brain break for physical activity about every 30 minutes throughout the school day at Park Brook, and there’s many more options students can choose from. Principal Scott Taylor works with his team to provide unique opportunities for their scholars to participate in active events around the metro area, such as the Twin Cities 5K race in October, the City of Lakes Loppet cross country ski youth race last month, and different CycleHealth opportunities such as the Kidarod obstacle course and Resilinator adventure race.
“It’s not about being the best, it’s not about being the fastest,” Taylor said. “What we talk about is growth, and each person growing from where they begin.”
