The Maple Grove Senior High Crimson Robotics team won the Lake Superior Regional First Robotics competition last weekend, where 63 teams competed from three states. The Crimson also won the team spirit award and mentored another team from Tower, Minn.
Alex Kafer was named a finalist for the Dean’s List Award and Sydney Lee was named a semifinalist. This is the highest honor a student robotics member can receive. Only ten individuals ultimately receive the award.
The team will compete in the world championships in St. Louis, Mo., in April.
Each year, there is a specific theme for the First Robotics competitions. The 2015 theme is Recycle Rush.
Recycle Rush is a recycling-themed game played by two Alliances of three robots each. Robots score points by stacking totes on scoring platforms, capping those stacks with recycling containers, and properly disposing of pool noodles, representing litter. In keeping with the recycling theme of the game, all game pieces used are reusable or recyclable by teams in their home locations or by FIRST at the end of the season. More info
