Four students from Osseo Area Schools received awards at the 3rd Congressional District High School Art Competition, hosted by U.S. Representative Erik Paulsen on April 24.
Gosa Dube from Park Center Senior High won Grand Prize for her work, “The Nature Within.” Along with taking top honors in the competition, Dube received $200 and airfare to Washington, D.C., where her artwork will be displayed in the U.S. Capitol Building for one year.
Other District 279 winners were Ana Esteva-Castillo, a freshman from Maple Grove Senior High, who received First Place and $100 for her digital print, “Surreal Factory.”
Mihika Murdeshwar, a senior at MGSH, earned Honorable Mention for her drawing, “Self Portrait as Wolverine,” while Osseo Senior High’s Cynthia Vang also received Honorable Mention for her work, “Alphonso.” Student artwork was judged by professors and artists from the University of Minnesota and Augsburg College.
The Congressional Art Competition began in 1982 to provide an opportunity for members of Congress to encourage and recognize the artistic talents of their young constituents. Since then, more than 650,000 high school students have been involved in the nationwide competition.
