When the 2016-2017 school year officially starts on September 6, Osseo Area Schools will welcome more than 200 new scholars in the district's new free pre-kindergarten program.
Made possible with funding allocated by the Minnesota Legislature to expand high-quality learning programs throughout the state, Osseo Area Schools’ free pre-kindergarten programming will feature hands-on learning opportunities and a thoughtful, developmentally appropriate curriculum that will prepare each child for success in kindergarten and beyond.
Beginning next month, free half-day pre-kindergarten will be offered at:
- Birch Grove Elementary
- Crest View Elementary
- Edinbrook Elementary (as of 8/15, waiting list only)
- Fair Oaks Elementary
- Garden City Elementary
- Palmer Lake Elementary (as of 9/1, waiting list only)
- Park Brook Elementary (as of 9/1, waiting list only)
- Zanewood Community School
The addition of free pre-kindergarten programming means that every elementary school in the district now offers some form of pre-kindergarten. This programming supports Osseo Area Schools’ work to ensure students meet the state’s World’s Best Workforce goals – including the goal that students are ready for kindergarten.
To be eligible for free pre-kindergarten, children must be at least 4-years old by September 1. Transportation is provided for eligible students.
Families may enroll their 4- and 5-year old children at the Osseo Area Schools Enrollment Center. The Enrollment Center is located at 7051 Brooklyn Boulevard in Brooklyn Center and is open Monday through Friday from 7:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.
Free pre-kindergarten spaces are limited at each site, and enrollments are accepted on a first-come, first-served basis. For program-related questions, call 763-391-8777. For enrollment questions, contact the Enrollment Center at 763-585-7350.
