Minnesota natives Dani Cameranesi, Lee Stecklein and Derek Peltier visited the Kidstop program at Rush Creek Elementary in Maple Grove on July 26 to talk about how they have achieved their dreams through hockey. Peltier played for the University of Minnesota and the NHL’s Colorado Avalanche. Cameranesi is a current member of the University of Minnesota’s national champion women’s hockey team. Stecklein, a three-time national champion with the Gophers, is also a three-time world champion and 2014 Olympic silver medalist for team USA. Both Cameranesi and Stecklein are training for spots on the 2018 U.S. Olympic team.
Students attending the presentation were able to ask questions about playing hockey on a team, what type of equipment hockey players need, and even had the chance to hold an Olympic medal.
