Thomas Beskow, of Maple Grove Middle School, and Paul Kochenderfer, of Osseo Middle School, beat millions of students competing in the National Geography Bee to qualify as two of the top 100 Geography Bee Scholars in the state of Minnesota.
Beskow tied for first place in the first round scoring a perfect 10 out of 10, which qualified him as one of the top 10 students in the state. Thomas ended up in 7th place after 10 rounds in the finals. Thomas is the second student from MGMS to reach the top 10 in the state.
Kochenderfer had a great performance at the state level ending up in third place in the initial round but was eliminated in the next round still finishing in the top 100 of the state.
Beskow’s teacher, Julie Spanier, and Kochenderfer’s teacher, Deb Pearson, attended the Geography Bee to cheer on their students.
