The Osseo Area Retired Educators (OARE) announced the recipients of its 2016 scholarships. OARE gives a $1,500 scholarship to one senior from each of Osseo Area Schools’ three comprehensive high schools. This year’s recipients are Michael Lu (Maple Grove Senior), Danielle Vo (Osseo Senior), and Grace Arel (Park Center Senior).
MICHAEL LU is ranked number one in his graduating class at Maple Grove Senior High. He has successfully challenged himself in many college-level courses and has been involved in many school and volunteer activities. Michael will attend the University of Pennsylvania. His goal is to establish a career in computer programming so he can work on anti-terrorism by designing program deterrents that thwart hazards to national security and yield progress in counter-terrorism.
DANIELLE VO, a student at Osseo Senior, will attend Drake University in Des Moines, Iowa, where she will major in biochemistry and cellular and molecular biology as part of the pre-pharmacy program. Eventually, she hopes to get her doctorate in pharmacy. Danielle also plans to contract with the ROTC program, with the hopes of becoming a commissioned officer. Danielle has been awarded the President’s Award for Educational Excellence.
GRACE AREL attends Park Center and has contributed to community racking up numerous hours of volunteering, especially through her church. She also has been involved in track, cross-country, orchestra and band. Grace will attend Bethel University where she will pursue a degree in psychology. She says her biggest goal is, “to give back to the community.” In her words, she says she “is fiercely committed to everything I do because it is very important to me that I follow through on my commitments.”
