Nearly three-dozen staff members at Brooklyn Middle School took advantage of an opportunity where students taught the teachers. Recently, five 8th graders hosted a Celebration of Culture staff meeting with the objective of raising awareness of cultural diversity among the student body. Each student shared details about their background, family, and culture with experiences ranging from being adopted, persecution from foreign governments, emigrating to the U.S. and participation in ELL programs with English as a third language. Staff also participated in an interactive discussion and discovery activity and enjoyed different cultural foods. The event is a precursor to the school’s upcoming all-school cultural celebration day on May 26. Students, Ikra, Janelly, Amaya, Nikki, and Jade collaborated with Differentiation Coach June Mattson to plan the event.
