Maple Grove Middle School Global Studies Teacher Bill Beckman will be honored as the 2016 Minnesota Council for the Social Studies (MCSS) Middle School Teacher of the Year.
Beckman teaches eighth grade Global Studies at Maple Grove Middle School, where his approach is focused on helping students understand their place in the world and the perspectives of others through learning history and geography. Beckman’s leadership in social studies education includes coordinating his school’s Geography Bee, serving on the State Geographic Education Steering Committee, presenting at state and local conferences, and co-authoring resources such as Rand McNally’s Minnesota Geography Program and the Story of Minnesota’s Past textbook activities. He is the recipient of several local and state professional recognitions.
He will receive the award at the annual MCSS dinner on Sunday, March 6.
