Open enrollment and in-district transfers

Osseo Area Schools offers families the flexibility to choose the best educational setting for their children through open enrollment and in-district transfers. Open enrollment allows students from outside our district boundaries to attend our schools, while in-district transfers provide current residents the opportunity to transfer their children to a different school within the district. To apply for open enrollment or an in-district transfer, please complete the application process outlined on our website. We encourage families to explore all the options available to find the school that best meets their child's needs.

Schools Closed to Open Enrollment: Osseo Area Schools is not accepting open enrollment or in-district transfer applications at Fernbrook Elementary and Maple Grove Senior High due to capacity concerns. Note: in-district transfer is temporarily paused at the elementary and middle school levels until 2027 because of the attendance boundary change process. This is in accordance with school board procedure. Further details are at district279.org/boundaries.

To qualify for enrollment into Kindergarten your child must turn 5 on or by Sept. 1 of the school year desired. Children who turn age 5 between Sept. 2 and Nov. 1 of the school year desired are eligible to apply for Early Entrance to Kindergarten (this application deadline is April 15)

A few things we need to when you apply

Once you have submitted the open enrollment application, the Enrollment Center staff will notify you if your child's application is approved. At that time, please complete the appropriate enrollment packet and submit it to the Enrollment Center along with required documents. Please do not submit an enrollment packet until you have been notified that your application was approved.

The following documents will need to be presented when you enroll your child:

Proofs of residency (two forms)
Photo ID of parent/legal guardian
Birth Certificate or Passport
Updated child’s required immunizations

Once you have received notice from the Enrollment Center that your application has been approved, please prepare enrollment materials. To enroll, you will need to have access to these required documents:
