Check out the success of district athletes and teams during this spring’s season of Minnesota State High School League state tournaments!
Note: Maple Grove Senior High School is noted as MGSH, Osseo Senior High School as OSH and Park Center Senior High School as PCSH.
Adapted softball (PI)
The physically impaired (PI) adapted softball team, which is made up of students from all of Osseo Area Schools’ senior high schools, competed in the state tournament May 16-17, walking away with a third place finish over Minneapolis South, 14-6. The team finished their season with a 8-3 record. One player, Tony Lebahn, won the Most Outstanding Player award at the conclusion of the season. Only one PI student wins this award from the entire school year of adapted sports.
Adapted softball (CI)
The cognitively impaired (CI) adapted softball team, which is also made up of students from all district high schools, competed in the state tournament May 16. They lost in the quarterfinals round to the South Washington County Thunderbolts. The team then moved to the consolation bracket, where they defeated the South Suburban Jets 12-11 before losing to the team from Chaska/Chanhassen/Prior Lake/Shakopee in the consolation finals.
Boys golf
MGSH boys golf placed eighth at the AAA state meet June 10-11 at the Bunker Hills Golf Course in Coon Rapids. Top individual placements included junior Zachary Johnson in 19th place, senior Davis Tripp in 30th place and junior Charlie Steenerson in 48th place.
Girls golf
MGSH’s girls golf team spent June 10-11 at the AAA state meet in Coon Rapids and finished with a second place title. The team scored 630, with Minnetonka taking first at 611 and Wayzata coming in third at 650. At the individual level, MGSH junior Abby Stendahl placed 10th, sophomore Annika Hendrickson and senior Carly Hamman tied for 13th and sophomore Payton Anderson placed 29th. The MGSH girls golf team has now placed first or second in the state meet for five consecutive years.
Girls lacrosse
The MGSH girls lacrosse team emerged from the MSHSL state tournament as consolation champions. The team fell to Stillwater in the quarterfinals round 16-10, but then battled their way through the consolation bracket, first winning 15-3 over Elk River/Zimmerman, then a 9-7 victory over Orono on June 14.
Girls synchronized swim
The girls synchronized swim team that represents all district high schools took fourth and sixth place at their state meet in late May at the University of Minnesota Aquatic Center. The full team took fourth in the finals championship, and the long trio team of Hayden Buchanan, Claire Germscheidd and Julianna Miller took sixth in the trio championship.

- 100 meter: OSH junior Payton Young, 12th place in the preliminary race.
- 4x200 meter relay: MGSH relay of Maya Carlson, Aubrey Steel, Kelsey Wentland, Eva Williams: 14th in the preliminaries
- 4x200 meter relay: OSH relay of Angel Tahuite Vasquez, Daysetta Zulu, Esther Obaye, Jazmin Turnbaugh: 13th in the preliminaries
- 4x100 meter relay: OSH relay of Daysetta Zulu, Myleigha Martin, Frankmico Siaway, Payton Young: 11th in the preliminaries
- 800 meter: MGSH sophomore Rebecca Lang: 12th place in the preliminary race and MGSH sophomore Mackenzie Laux: ninth place in the preliminary race and seventh place in the finals
- 200 meter: MGSH senior Maya Carlson: 28th in the preliminary race and OSH junior Esther Obaye placed 15th in the preliminary race
- 4x400 meter relay: MGSH relay of Rebecca Lang, Lillian Waite, Eva Williams and Mackenzie Laux: second place in the preliminary round and clinched the championship in the finals with a time of 3:52.52!
- 4x800 meter relay: MGSH relay of Abigail Oakland, April Watson, Mackenzie Laux and Rebecca Lang, finished in second place in the finals with a time of 9:29.90
- Long jump: OSH junior Payton Young: sixth in the finals
- Triple jump: PCSH Claire Nelson: 12th place in the finals
- Shot put: OSH junior Nina Thomas: sixth in the finals
- Discus: OSH junior Nina Thomas: 14th place in the finals
Boys track and field
- 110 meter hurdles: MGSH senior Max Miley, third in the preliminary race and fourth place in the finals
- 4x100 meter relay: The MGSH relay of Drake Wegscheid, Beaux Thyen, James Engle and Jack Weigel: eighth in the preliminary race and sixth in the finals
- 300 meter hurdles: MGSH senior Max Miley placed 13th and OSH junior Joshua Kolaru placed 14th in the preliminary race
- 800 meter: MGSH senior Gannon Farrens: eighth in the preliminary race and ninth in the finals
- 4x100 meter relay: MGSH relay team of Drake Wegscheid, Beaux Thyen 11, James Engle and Jack Weigel: eighth in the preliminary race and sixth in the finals with a time of 42:72
- 4x400 meter relay: MGSH relay team of Jon Lunde, Oliver Retrum, Jack Weigel and Gannon Farrens: ninth in the finals. OSH relay team Kalen Blanchette, Joshua Kolaru, Austin Olson and Jaden Freeman ran in the preliminary race, placing 17th
- 4x800 meter relay: MGSH relay team of Lucas Capistrant, Benjamin Femrite, Oliver Tetrum and Gannon Farrens: 15th in the finals
- High jump: MGSH junior Patrick Wright: fourth and OSH junior Eiza Ojo: seventh in the finals
- Triple jump: PCSH junior Rico Calvert: sixth in the finals
- Pole vault: MGSH senior Henry White: third in the finals
- Shot put: OSH junior Kevin Kieh: 18th in the finals
Boys volleyball
The PCSH boys volleyball team made an appearance at the first-ever MSHSL boys state tournament. The team fell in the quarterfinals round to Eden Prairie June 10.
