Park Center Senior High students get to know elementary age students through service project
Students involved in ninth grade Advancement via Individual Determination (AVID) classes at Park Center Senior High School spent time at Birch Grove School for the Arts the week of May 12, where they taught lessons, read books and played games that they prepared as part of a service project for younger students.
AVID teacher Stephanie Kirstein said the project aims to create connections between younger and older students in the community and to help younger students feel comfortable around their older peers. She said the high school students do not receive a grade for the efforts they put into planning and putting on these fun, engaging lessons at Birch Grove.
“It’s service, so it’s completely giving of their time,” she said.
