Infectious energy filled Park Brook Elementary School’s gymnasium March 3, when the school invited parents and its entire student body to a showcase event for the school’s popular Double Dutch club. The club includes about 60 students from grades three through five.

The Double Dutch students, about half of whom did not know how to Double Dutch when the club began in November, began their show with tricks using their individual ropes. The students then moved to jumping a long single rope and doing tricks such as jumping rope while jumping with a pogo stick, jumping a short rope while also jumping the longer rope, dribbling a basketball or doing jumping push-ups while jumping rope.

When the Double Dutch portion of the event began, activities involved partner jumping, seeing how many kids could jump at once, more tricks with the Double Dutch ropes and inviting staff and parents to try.

At the end of the show, Park Brook students heard from a representative from the American Heart Association to kick off the school’s 2025 Heart Challenge, which they’ll complete during physical education classes throughout the month of March.
