Kidstop program at Oak View Elementary School shines light on National Autism Awareness and Acceptance Month

April is National Autism Awareness and Acceptance Month, an observance established in the 1970s to highlight the growing need for awareness and engagement around autism in the United States and provide a special opportunity for everyone to learn about autism and how to support the autism community.

This month, Community Education’s Kidstop school-age care program at Oak View Elementary School honored Autism Awareness and Acceptance Month by creating a group art project. The students and staff used mallets and cotton balls with paint to create a diverse piece of art.

“This project represents that while we are creating one project together, we each bring something beautiful to the process,” shared Kidstop lead instructor Jaime Bauer.

Bringing the community together in celebration of Autism Awareness and Acceptance Month results in greater awareness, understanding, inclusion and appreciation of those who live with autism.
