Fernbrook Elementary School students compete in Destination Imagination

Students in the Destination Imagination (DI) after-school club at Fernbrook Elementary School recently competed in the State Competition. Fernbrook sent seven teams to the State Competition, with four of those teams qualifying for Global Finals by placing in the top three in their category. Global Finals will take place May 22-25 in Kansas City, MO.

DI challenges students to work together in small teams to think critically and solve complex problems through a Team Challenge and an Instant Challenge. The after-school club is led by fourth grade teachers Jessica Spurrell and Courtney Carlson. 

Here are the results from the State Competition:

  • Fine arts (theme was “Less is More”) 
    • “AAACEHL” placed first, qualifying for Global Finals
    • “Dogster Infusion” placed fifth
  • Technical (theme was “Breaking Point”)
    • “Dork Industries” placed first, qualifying for Global Finals
    • “The Ice Breaking Penguins” placed second, qualifying for Global Finals
  • Engineering (theme was “ High-Wire Act)
    • “We Forgot” placed first, qualifying for Global Finals
  • Improv (theme was “Are We There Yet”)
    • “We Can’t Decide” placed fourth
    • “Whatchamacallit Queens” placed fifth
