Building a Better Future update: North View Middle School

Building a Better Future update: North View Middle School

When North View Middle School (NVMS) bids adieu to its students at the end of this school year, it will be preparing to welcome construction crews the following day for the next phase of its renovation.

Thanks to the passage of Building a Better Future, NVMS will receive extensive renovations to its second story and some to its first story, which received previous renovation work. Major improvements will include:

  • A new library media center with an open commons space
  • A new maker space
  • Renovated art classrooms
  • More learning on display features such as glass walls and open spaces
  • Improved finishes and all new, flexible learning furniture
  • Improvements to second floor security
  • Updated HVAC system on the second floor, tying in with previously updated first floor HVAC
  • Renovations to the school’s counseling space

The renovation will replace walls and rearrange existing walls to remedy the building’s original design, which lacked second-story walls. The school currently has demountable walls on the second floor, which the district’s director of facility operations, Dale Carlstrom, said are not good for sound mitigation from one classroom to the next.

“We’re doing what we were charged to do with the Building a Better Future referendum criteria,” Carlstrom said.

Carlstrom said planning for this project is largely complete, construction contracts have been issued and some preliminary work has begun. Construction will kick off in June and is expected to reach substantial completion around Aug. 15.
