Policy 926 - Conceal & Carry on School Premises

General Statement

In accordance with the Minnesota Citizens' Personal Protection Act, persons authorized by permit to carry firearms are prohibited from carrying firearms in school buildings and improved grounds, with the following stipulations.
This prohibition extends to all District owned or leased school sites classified as school property in M.S. 609.66, Subd. 1.d., 4.i-ix.
The District will post conspicuous signage stating this prohibition at all District sites that are not clearly recognized as school property.
The prohibition against carrying firearms on improved grounds includes parking lots that are owned or leased by the District and are adjacent to school buildings with the following exceptions.
1. The prohibition does not affect parking lots that serve District instructional sites but are not owned or leased by the District, such as those in strip malls.
2. A person with a permit to conceal and carry firearms may keep a firearm in the interior of a vehicle while parked in a District parking lot and may take it outside of the vehicle to directly place the firearm in the trunk or rear area of the vehicle.
This prohibition does not extend to persons allowed to carry or possess firearms on school property as designated under M.S. 609.66, sub. 1d(a)-(c).
