Model UN teams take top honors at spring competition

Two school funding requests on November ballot
In the absence of stable, predictable funding from the state, the ISD 279 School Board has voted to place two school funding questions on the November 2013 ballot:

• an operating levy that would provide about $9 million per year for 10 years to continue progress in increasing student achievement and to avoid another round of budget cuts of up to $8 million for the 2014-2015 school year; and
• a technology levy that would provide $5 million per year for 10 years to purchase, install and maintain software and technology for school instruction.

MGJH student takes first place at SCSU math contest
Maple Grove Junior High seventh-grader, Lucas Jackson, earned first place at this year’s St. Cloud State University Mathematics Contest. The annual contest invites talented math students from across Minnesota to compete on an individual test.

Osseo Senior High student named Gates Millennium Scholar
Kaley Shagen has been named a Gates Millennium Scholar, marking the third consecutive year that an Osseo Senior High student has earned this prestigious award. Shagen will attend Dartmouth College next fall to study science. Dr. Robert Perdaems, Osseo Senior High principal, noted with pride that in the past three years, OSH has produced four Gates Millennium Scholars.
