The District 279 Foundation is a vibrant, 501(c)3 charitable organization
with a mission to support and enhance the School District 279's dedication
to learning. The District 279 Foundation continues to grow each day,
thanks to the many generous donations received from citizens, community
organizations, District 279 staff, local businesses and major corporate
partners.
The District 279 Foundation began in 1991 with a simple vision . . . to
give students an extra edge by creating exciting and innovative programs
which enhance traditional school learning experiences. Thanks to the leadership
provided by my predecessors, June Long and Lee Skavanger, this strong tradition
of excellence continues today.
The District 279 Foundation provides more than $200,000 annually in three
specific project areas:
-
Classroom Grant Program (grades Pre-K through Adult)
Supports staff-generated enrichment classroom grants that enhance
educational opportunities that cannot be funded by Osseo Area School
District funds
-
Reading is Fundamental (RIF) Reading Initiative (grades Pre-K through
12)
Supports the goal to have all students reading at grade level
Character/Leadership
Initiative
Supports the premise that all children must learn to interact constructively
with others and that their character and leadership development will
have a lasting impact on future success
