Where did you go to school and what is your previous job experience?

The University of Iowa and the University of Minnesota-Twin Cities; I have worked in the restaurant industry, insurance, health care, Information technology, and as a small business owner operating a coffee house (which I built with my own hands). I currently also teach in the evenings at Century College in White Bear Lake.

How long have you worked at Park Center?

1999

What is your teaching philosophy?

Learning should not be passive. I like a vibrant classroom where students ask questions and help each other learn.

Why did you choose your profession?

I teach mathematics because it is THE most fun job in the world. I can’t believe that I get paid to do it. It is a great joy to be around such interesting young minds.

“Girls like guys with skills.” –Napoleon Dynamite

In what room(s) can you commonly be found?

106

Additional Comments(hobbies)?

I read, fish and love live music. My favorite four days of the year are spent at the Winnipeg Folk Festival every July. Live music rules!!!

Advice for students going to college?

Work hard and develop good study skills now. Take as much math as you can in high school; it costs money in college.

Biggest pet peeve?

Students talking when I am talking.

Sum up your career at Park Center in one word

Exciting!

If you were required to find a different job than what you are currently doing, what would you choose?

I’d teach college level mathematics or maybe work as a waiter in an expensive restaurant . . . or work in a book store . . . or work as a roadmen for the band Radiohead.
