Ms. Emily Meyer,MeyerE@district279.org

English

Where did you go to school and what is your previous job experience?

St. Olaf College for my B.A. in English; University of Minnesota for my M.Ed, which I started this summer but probably won’t finish until 2050. I taught at the Osseo Area Learning Center (OALC) for five years before coming to PC.

When did you begin working at Park Center?

September 2008

What is your teaching philosophy?

I want my students to learn to be better thinkers. Anyone can learn facts, but I believe true intelligence lies in the ability to analyze and ask good questions.

Why did you choose your profession?

I gradually realized that teaching combines everything I naturally gravitate to and am passionate about: working with people and sharing stories and information.

What is your favorite quote?

I don’t really have one… I should work on that.

In what room(s) can you commonly be found?

228

Additional Comments(hobbies)?

My hobbies/interests include reading, jogging, food, politics, skiing, playing the viola, and hanging out with my husband, family, friends, and pets. (We have two cats and a dog).

Advice for students going to college?

This may sound pessimistic, but don’t expect college to be the “be all and end all” of your life. College more of a starting point than you’d think, and if you do it right, it will only lead you to bigger, better, and more interesting things.

Biggest pet peeve?

It’s a toss-up: either clowns (although that’s more of a phobia), or improper use of who/that (as in, “I know two people that can juggle.” NO! It should be, “I know two people WHO can juggle”).

Sum up your career at Park Center in one word

Whirlwind!

If you were required to find a different job than what you are currently doing, what would you choose?

Food writer/critic or book store owner
