What is your teaching philosophy?
Teaching in different schools has taught me that above all else- kids are kids. They will respond to you as an educator if you present the material in a way that is accessible to them. By making the material appealing and transferable to their everyday lives, learning happens without pain. They are stretching and expanding in a context that is comfortable to them.
Why did you choose your profession?
I chose teaching as a profession because it has given me the opportunity to effect change in the lives of kids who need guidance. In moving into other responsibilities and positions this year, I’ve found that the same applies, but in a different environment. I am still helping kids, but I think that I am doing it by working more closely with staff.
What is your favorite quote?
“Courage does not always roar. Sometimes it is the quiet voice at the end of the day saying, I will try again tomorrow.”
In what room(s) can you commonly be found?
My office in Student Support
Additional Comments(hobbies)?
Reading, coffee, friends, and shoes are my passions (in no particular order)- lately though my most of my time goes to homework.
Advice for students going to college?
Take the time to truly think of what you want. Breathe in the experience, but know that the student loan bills keep on coming even when you change your major five times. But go for as long as you need to find your passion- I would love to go to school forever- it is getting pretty spendy at this point! Keep in mind as well- your education is one of the things that no one will ever be able to take from you!
Biggest pet peeve?
Negativity simply for the sake of being negative- without ever offering any potential solution.
