Use your book!
It is now time to get your keyboards dirty and start scripting. On the next page is a list of the different types of scripts you will be asked to write. Each script will have a suggested timeline for completion. Each script will have an open book, open internet exercise to complete. When you have completed that exercise, you turn it in. Each script will also have a "quiz" associated with it. These quizes are open book, but closed internet! Each quiz will have a maximum time for completion of one class period. The tasks in the quiz will be similar, but not the same, to the tasks in that scripts exercise. Each script, then, will consist of:

  1. some study time for you,
  2. working through an exercise, and
  3. sitting for the closed internet quiz.

The script activities will be chosen from some of the more common uses of Javascript on the World Wide Web. Of course, you could do a search and find a script similar to the one you are looking for and change a few lines of code. However, the goal of this trimester is to teach you to write Javascript, not copy it. Therefore, the closed internet quiz at the end of each script. I encourage you to use the internet(search for scripts) in your study time(1) and your exercise time(2). Each "script session" composed of 1. study, 2. exercise, and 3. quiz will be given a finite amount of time. The time you will be given depends upon the complexity of the script. All students must take the quiz on the same day! However, I will accept exercises at any time for full credit. Since it would really be helpful to have done the exercises before the quizes, you are kind of on a strict time schedule. The structure of this class is a little different from Trimester 1. You probably need to stay on the class time schedule a little more tightly than you did in Tri. 1.

Since your exercise/quiz work is on a strict time schedule, I will try to give you ample time to complete them. Some of you may finish a given script technique ahead of time. You may work ahead on to the next script(study and exercise), but you will not be able to do the quiz on it until the official quiz day. The main focus of Tri. 2 is still the development/upgrading of your webpages. I do not want you to get so focused on your scripting that you neglect your webpages. I have set up the scripting schedule to reflect that(trying not to push you too fast). You may have extra time that you wish to devote to more scripting exercises. Therefore, I have set up a few extra credit scripts that you may work on in your spare time and turn in to goose your grade a little. These are not worth a lot of points, so you are much better off spending your extra time on improving your websites.
