Fiction Authors
Fantasy Fiction
- Tamora Pierce-Quite good at creating magical settings with a basis in the real world.
- Joanne Bertin-She had such a promising start, but her offspring have been keeping her occupied.
- Kelley Armstrong-The Women of the Otherworld is a wonderful piece, I reccomend Bitten, Stolen, and Broken.
- Richard A. Knaak-Knaak is a noted adaption writer, authoring novels from several game universes, such as Warcraft, Diablo, and even Dragonlance. He has also helped create some manga adaptions.
- Stephenie Meyer-Another author you should have heard of, she is the pre-eminent vapire author of the early 21st century, her Twilight series puts a whole new twist on Human-Vampire relationships.
- Raymond E. Feist-Feist writes long complex stories, and series, however he never sticks with a single character for too long, so don't go and become too attached.
-
David and Leigh Edding's-No official site made for them sadly. These two have been writing books together for years, there most well-known series are the Belgariad, the Mallorean, the Elenium, and the Tamuli.
- Mercedes Lackey -Has written an incredible number of books and multiple series, good for all the fantasy readers.
- J.K. Rowling-Best selling author of all time, she could have done better, but she also could could have done alot worse too, praise for Rowling.
- C.T. Adams and Cathy Clamp-These two co-author the Tale of the Sazi series, one the greatest works of paranormal fiction out there, it focuses on a shapeshifting race. They also author 'The Thrall' series, a whole new spin on what vampires are.
- Christine Warren-Another shapeshifting fiction author, nearly on par with C&C.
- Gina Farago-Only one book so far, but it promises to be quite the series, werewolves are here.
- Patricia Briggs-Another very good paranormal author, I personally reccomend her Mercedes Thompson novels.
- Cornelia Funke-A very successful author, her most notable work is the Inkheart series, which is currently being made into a movie.
- Eileen Wilks-Wilks is another paranormal fantasy author, quite good, but not well known.
Science Fiction
- K.A. Applegate-Animorphs and Everworld are hers, she's been a bit dried out on stories lately.
- The Halo Books-These books cover several of the unexplained events concerning the Master Chief, specifically his past, and what happened between the end of Halo and the beginning of Halo 2. Sadly, there is no official site for them.
- AvP Universe-A crossover between the Alien and Predator franchises, collected into novels and comics through Dark Horse Comics, and two movies have been released. No official site solely for them, you'll need to do some digging.
- Starcraft Books-The same idea as the warcraft books, with Blizzards other franchise, Starcraft.
- Philip Pullman-Author of 'His Dark Materials', which is currently being put into movies as of 2007.
- Eoin Colfer-Wrote the Artemis Fowl series, a good introduction into science-fiction for younger readers.
High Fantasy
- J.R.R. Tolkien-Tolkien passed away on September 2, 1973 of pneumonia, R.I.P. The great legacy left behind by this man-The Lord of the Rings-has left a mark on our world that will not soon be forgotten.
- Terry Brooks-The Shannara series is an incredible piece of interconnecting ideas, action and it's ever-present reaction.
- C.S. Lewis-Due to a vareity of health issues, including a heart attack, and kidney problems, died on November 22nd, 1963 at approximately 5:30 P.M. A close friend to Tolkien, his book series has also sparked the creation of a set of movies to complement them.
- Terry Goodkind-If your into very long, complex, cause-and-effect fantasy series, this is the author for you.
- Steven Erikson-Tolkien created High Fantasy along with C.S.Lewis, but it's Erikson who has brought it to it's greatest pinnacle so far in my opinion.
Sword and Sorcery
- Robert E. Howard-I do not kid you, when I say that this is the man who created the genre of sword-and-sorcery fiction. He is the author of Conan the Barbarian, which has recently been released in MMO game form. Robert is an equal for people such as Tolkien and C.S. Lewis., he also worked for a time with H.P. Lovecraft.
- Robert Jordan-His greatest work in my opinion is the Wheel of Time series. Died on September 16th, 2007, of a rare blood disease that caused heart failure, R.I.P. Acclaimed fantasy author Brandon Sanderson will finish the last book in the WoT series.
- Dan Abnett-This was the best I could find. Dan writes for multiple people, similar to Richard A. Knaak, he writes mostly in the Warhammer universe.
- The Warcraft Books-Written by a variety of authors, all of the Warcraft books explore the events in the game that we've only heard brief mention of before. The events of the Sundering, the journeys of Thrall, Karazhan during the First war, the Sunwell destruction aftermath, and more.
- Forgotten Realm Books-For books alone take the above link. For a more comprehensive collection of the Forgotten Realms, head to Candlekeep
- Christopher Paolini-Greaduated from High school at the age of 15! he became a best-selling author at the age of 19. His best and only work so far is the Inheritance cycle.
- The DragonLance Series-A D&D offspring, very similar to the Forgotten Realms, but different enough to be unique.
- R.A. Salvatore -Creator of the one and only Drizzt Do'Urden, set in the Forgotten Realms universe.
- Warhammer Books-The Warhammer universe has been running along now for 25 years, and it has plenty of material upon which to draw to write books. Whether you like fantasy or science-fiction, both can be found here. An MMO game is also in the works, slated for realease in Fall of 2008.
Dark and Mature Reading
- Jennifer Fallon-Her crowning achievement is the creation of the Demon Child Trilogy, and the Hythrun Chronicles.
- Stephen King-Here he is, the master of horror fiction.
- Kouta Hirano-There is no official site for Kouta Hirano, (romanized Kohta Hirano) not that we could read anyways. He is the writer of the gory and bloody Hellsing manga, for mature readers only.
- Dan Brown-If your into conspiracy and mystery, here's an author you'll like.
- Todd McFarlane-Couldn't find one on Todd, so I grabbed one on his work. McFarlane is a writer, an artist, and a sculptor, rather talented guy, neh?
- Neil Gaiman-Has worked on and within many different series and subjects, is very good at creating universes and characters. Personally, I find his writing style kinda creepy, like, Stephen King's kind of creepiness.
- Jacqueline Carey-Mature readers only please. Carey is the author of the Kushiel's Legacy series, graphic and brutal at times.
- Jim Butcher-Creator of the Dresden Files and Codex Alera series.
- L.A. Banks-Writer of the Vampire Huntress series. Sadly the series is not very well known despite being ten books long. Banks is rather revolutionary, featuring the first epic paranormal fantasy series with colored people as the main characters.
Manga
- Rumiko Takahashi-English fansite. Rumiko is considered to be the greatest female manga writer of all time, and one of the best manga writers ever.
- Masashi Kishimoto-Here he is, the creator of the wonderful Naruto series, if you haven't read or seen any of his work yet, you should go get it...like right now.
- Kentaro Yabuki-There aint much on this guy, maybe he's a recluse. Best known for his Black cat series.
- Akihisa Ikeda-No official site for he/she? I'm not sure which. Created Rosario + Vampire manga series, which sparked an short anime series, I would advise reading the manga over the anime.
