All books in the Library are organized by Genre into certain areas of the Library, and then organized even further from their by the Dewey Decimal System.Book Renewal-The Media Center Staff will often 'Weed' through their collection and locate any books that are damaged enough so that they must be replaced. If the books are in bad condition then they will be removed from the Mainstream Library, and will be replaced when they buy their next yearly batch of books.
Main Book Supplier-The main book supplier for the Library is a company called Follitt, as well as a few other vendors.
Checkout System-The Checkout System for the Library is quite simple and very basic. All one needs is a School ID card, so therefore only students or teachers may rent out books. Once you have the material you desire, simply hand both your ID Card, and the book(s) to the people at the checkout desk, they will scan the ID Card in order to reference you, then scanning the book, adding it to your name. All books coming in and out are kept track of in this manner.
Book Usage-The books most often checked out of the Library are from the Fiction section, the second most borrowed books are from the Graphic Novel area. While this may appear a bit unusual, the reason for it is because that many of the Non-fiction books that would be used for school research are reference books, and therefore may not be borowed. Most often, the teachers will request the Media workers to pull books off the shelf and onto a cart, then, entire classes of students will come in and browse through the cart.
The Library at Park Center is very helpful and especially the with the level of students who either don't know English or don't have access to books at home. It is very inspiring to see the great job our school has done with the development of smart board screens, categorized books, and research engines over the internet. It is very useful for us to have the computer around the library to look up the locations of books we are looking for and to be able to see there if there are any in or if they are checked out already. This saves the students a lot of time in looking for books that aren't in at the time. It is also a great thing that the teachers are able to reserve computer lab time and library time for their classes. This system is a very well organized way to make things fair. We also do a great job of using recycled paper for students to print with instead of wasting large amounts of unused paper.
