Park Center has started a
computer science program to meet the needs of students in the 21st
century. Currently the program has the 8 trimester classes listed below
. The instructor for this program is Jeff Rholl

.
Computer Networking Program- Park Center offers 5 trimesters of Computer Networking instruction. The first trimester is an introduction designed for all citizens of the 21st century. The remaining four trimesters represent Park Centers involvement in the Cisco Networking Academies Worldwide. Students in Trimesters B, C, D, and E will prepare themselves for a certification exam in Computer Networking that could lead to a immediate career in the field or prepare for a major in Computer Science in college.
Intro to Computer Networking A(1 trimester)- Explore basic computer networking concepts. Students will learn the techniques for creating Local Area Networks and Wide Area Networks. Students will learn how messages travel through networks and across the internet. Hands on activities, lectures, online curriculum. Home computer not required, but helpful.
Cisco Networking Academy B(1 trimester)- This course starts the progression for students wishing to pursue a Cisco Certified Networking Associate(CCNA) certification. Also recommended for students interested in the study of computer science in college. A focus of this trimester is configuring routers to manage network traffic. A very hands on, lab oriented class. Prerequisite: Intro to Computer Networking A
Cisco Networking Academy C(1 trimester)- This course continues the progression for students wishing to pursue a Cisco Certified Networking Associate(CCNA) certification. Also recommended for students interested in the study of computer science in college. A focus of this trimester is configuring switches to help routers manage network traffic. Student will also learn to create Access Control List to provide security(firewalls) to a network. A very hands on, lab oriented class. Prerequisite: Cisco Networking Academy B
Cisco Networking Academy D(1 trimester)- This course continues the progression for students wishing to pursue a Cisco Certified Networking Associate(CCNA) certification. Also recommended for students interested in the study of computer science in college. A focus of this trimester is Wide Area Network(WAN) protocols and network management. A very hands on, lab oriented class. Prerequisite: Cisco Networking Academy C
Cisco Networking Academy E(1 trimester)- This course finishes the progression for students wishing to pursue a Cisco Certified Networking Associate(CCNA) certification. Also recommended for students interested in the study of computer science in college. A focus of this trimester is the Threaded Case study in which students design both a Local Area Network and a Wide Area Network from the ground up. Class time will also be spent on reviewing for the CCNA exam. A very hands on, lab oriented class. Prerequisite: Cisco Networking Academy D
Intro to Computer
Programming: HTML(1 trimester)- is a trimester course that teaches students HyperText Markup
Language, the code of the World Wide Web. Students
will also explore the history of the Internet, digital image editing, design layout,
and some scripting. Students
will also spend some time learning Cascading Style Sheets, an extension of HTML. Students should have basic computer skills but need not be
computer experts. This course could also be called "Beginning WebDesign", as students will work to create websites for personal and school use.
Intro to Computer
Programming: Javascript(1 trimester)- is a trimester course that teaches students the Javascript Scripting language, the most used script of the World Wide Web. The second main topic of this trimester course is creating animations using Adobe's Photoshop and Image Ready programs. This course could also be called "Intermediate WebDesign", as students will work to create websites for personal and/or school use. Prerequisite: Intro to Computer Programming: HTML.
Intro to Computer
Programming: Java(1 trimester)- is a trimester course that teaches students the basics of the Java Programmming Language, a common programming code of the World Wide Web. Java is a complex language with many uses. This class will use simple language code to create applets for web pages. This course could also be called "Advanced WebDesign", as students will work to create websites for personal and/or school use. We will also introduce students to careers in other complex
programming languages. Prerequisite: Intro to Computer Programming: HTML and Intro to Computer Programming: Javascript.
