On April 27 at the University of St. Thomas, Park Center senior, Jimere Douglas, was honored at the first banquet of the National Football Foundation, Twin Cities chapter. He received the Play It Smart P.R.I.D.E. award, which recognizes a member of the Play It Smart program for his or her effort in academic and athletic performance. P.R.I.D.E. stands for "Personal Responsibility in Daily Effort," which refers to a student-athlete's perpetual dedication to hard work and improvement.

In addition to Jimere, seven other scholar-athletes from various high schools in the metro area were awarded Heisman-like trophies. Legendary football coach Murray Warmath and current Gophers head football coach, Tim Brewster, spoke on behalf of the tradition of football in the state of Minnesota.

Head Park Center football coach, Rufus Bess, was in attendance to celebrate Jimere's achievements, as were Jimere's mother, ReNea, and Play It Smart academic coach, Carlee Tressel.
