
The Park Center Chess Team finished in 6th place out of 16 teams in the High School Chess League playoffs on March 3. Ahead of the Pirates were Eden Prairie, Totino Grace, Southwest, Eastview and Wayzata. In the four-round team competition, Park Center defeated Prior Lake and Totino Grace, drew with Wayzata and lost to Southwest.
The team is getting ready for the State High School Chess Championship on March 17-18 at Eagan High School. In last year's statewide tournament, Park Center earned a sixth-place finish behind Southwest, Burnsville, Lakeville North, Rochester Lourdes and Rochester Century.
The Park Center team, consisting of Tim G., James B., Hai T., Jeng L. and Matt W., was undefeated in the Northeastern Division of the High School league during the regular season.
