| The advisor of the Park Center chapter of SAVE - Mr. Pocius(pronounced Poshus) |
New to Park Center this year is a program called SAVE. SAVE, which stands for Students Against Violence Everywhere, is a climate setting group. That means SAVE's purpose is to create a friendly and peaceful environment through out the school by means of cutting down the number of fights, ease some of the tension between students and the myriad conflicts that occur in a large school building. This, in turn, would make the school a more peaceful and enjoyable climate. It will also make it much easier to accomplish what we're here for in the first place, which is to learn.
SAVE originated from a high school in Charlotte, NC when a student named Alex Orange was killed while trying to break up a fight at a party. The students at this school met in the cafeteria the next school day and vowed to create peace in schools and student organizations through out the world. Currently there are 1600 chapters in schools (ranging from elementary to college) and student organizations in 44 states and a few foreign countries.

SAVE will begin their first campaign this year as sort of a "pre-SAVE" to set up for the next school year when Mr. Pocius expects SAVE to really take off. You’ll begin to see posters, the results of surveys that were taken at conferences, and maybe ever begin to hear announcements on it. There might even be a few SAVE sponsored events this year. SAVE is going to accomplish its goals by having students act as positive role models as well as peer mentors, assessing the needs and issues of our school. If you would like to learn more about SAVE such as how you can get involved or more on what SAVE is check out their website at http://www.nationalsave.org/index.php or talk to Mr. Pocius in the counseling office.
