Post-Secondary Enrolment Options (PSEO) allows high school juniors and seniors to take courses, full- or part- time, at a post-secondary institution for high school and college credit. The program provides students with a greater variety of class offerings and the opportunity to pursue more challenging coursework than may be available at high school. The tuition, fees and required textbooks are at no cost for the student.
You are eligible if you are in grades 11 or 12, enrolled at Park Center Senior High, and meet the admission requirements of the post-secondary college or university you wish to attend. The following are examples of current requirements:
- University of Minnesota - top 15% of the class
- Private Colleges - top 20% of the class
- State and Community Colleges - juniors top1/3 of the class and seniors top 1/2 of the class
Eligible institutions include the University of Minnesota and its branches, all state universities, community colleges and technical colleges, 2 and 4 year liberal arts colleges, private 2 year trade or technical schools (NEI/Dunwoody) or a North Central accredited opportunities industrialization center, located in Minnesota. You may also qualify to take specialized classes at Hennepin Technical College; contact the CRC for more information regarding admission and tuition and fee waiver available at HTC.
Discuss this option with your parent(s) or guardian. Then make an appointment to see your assigned school counselor to determine eligibility. If eligible, your counselor will assist you in the completion of the application process for the institution you are interested in attending. A 3-part PSEO form must be completed and signed by your parent/guardian before you register each semester to ensure that your tuition is paid by the school district.
The books you receive belong to the college, and are to be returned to the book store.
This is an opportunity to take actual college courses. You will be expected to effectively manage your time, study more outside of class, and meet deadlines without reminders. Colleges have the right to restrict the number and kinds of courses PSEO students may take. Additionally, once you register for courses, you have started an official college transcript. It is essential that you first gain approval by a school counselor to drop any PSEO class. Although colleges have a designated drop/withdrawal period (meaning if you drop a class your college transcript will show "withdrawn"), dropping a college course will result in a "F"- grade on your high school transcript.
The Minnesota High School League rules allow you to participate in high school athletics and/or extra-curricular activities at either the high school or post-secondary institution, but not both.
If you qualify for High School Graduation Incentives, you may attend an Area Learning Center and may enroll in PSEO from the Area Learning Center.
You will be responsible for meeting the graduation requirements of Park Center Senior High. Working with your assigned school counselor ensures that the college courses you take will meet high school requirements (credit and graduation standards). The high school grants the number of credits that you will receive for courses taken in PSEO. Therefore, check each trimester to determine your continued credit and graduation needs. It is your responsibility to set up appointments with your assigned counselor.
For every college semester credit completed, you will receive .75 credit for a high school trimester. Credits will be transcribed as folows:
