Computer Lab Visits

Important Hints and Suggestions

Visit the computer lab ahead of time and discuss with the ITS what you would like to accomplish. This will ensure that the ITS has time to ensure that the programs you need are set up and running properly.

Schedule computer lab time early as the lab schedules fill up quickly. However, to maintain friendly relationships with colleagues,

    - don’t overbook the lab, and

    - if your plans change, clear the computer lab schedule for when you don’t need it.

Plan to be with the students during the lab visit. The ITS is more than willing to assist with programs you are unfamiliar with, but must be able to count on your being there to assist with subject related questions and supervise students.

Ensure that the students are familiar with the Media Center Code of Conduct. It is especially important that they understand the importance of not accessing inappropriate sites while using the Internet.

Review the assignment with students, demonstrate the programs students will be using and/or assign students to groups beforehand to ensure productive use of time in the computer lab.

Allow enough time for students to wrap up what they are doing in the computer lab at the end of the hour. Always have a backup plan ready to go that does not involve using computers in case the network goes down.
