History of the American West
This course will examine the historical development of the west and its impact on
contemporary American culture. Emphasized will be the analysis of the myths, symbols, and
historical realities of the American West.
Minnesota History
This course will examine Minnesota history from the earliest timees to the present and
include current events and topics affecting Minnesota and her citizens.
Crime and Justice
This course will introduce students to the study of the American Criminal Justice System.
Emphasis will be given to the study of the interaction between law enforcement agencies,
the court systems and society. Constitutional protections and limitation will also be
examined
Pyschology
This course is an introduction to the study of psychology. Basic psychological principles
and research methods will be applied in an analysis of human behavior. The course is
designed for juniors and seniors.
World History 500-1700
This survey course of World History will concentrate on major civilizations in the 500 -
1700 time frame. Students will analyze how past events have shaped the present global
communtity and global conflicts
Colonial History
This course will study colonial American history including early exploration and
settlement, events leading to the Revolutionary War, early government structures and
presidential policies form Washington to Jackson.
World Religion
This course examines the diversity and function of religion. Topics include: Hinduism,
Buddhism, Islam, Judaism, and Christianity. This course will be about religion; it will
not promote religious beliefs.
International Relations
This course uses American History as a foundation in the analysis of foreign policy issues
and options. Students will be involved in problem-solving and decision-making about
international issues.
Advanced Psychology Prerequisite: Psychology
This advanced course will examine psychology as a science. Students will conduct their own
psychology experiment and examine current psychological issues. Basics psychological
principle will be applied to various topics of behavioural sciences.
Sociology
This course is an introduction to the study of sociology. Basic sociological principles
will be applied in an analysis of social structure. Emphasis will be placed on studying
the interaction among individuals, groups, and institutions. Sociological research methods
will be utilzed in the study of current sociological issues.
Advanced Sociology On-Line Prerequisite: Sociology
This course in an on-line course. This means that you will receive your instruction as
well as complete your work via the computer. You will meet once after school at the
beginning of the trimester to learn how to participate in the on-line instruction. After
the initioal meeting, all future work will be via the computer. You will have the option
to choose to devote a study hall period to your on-line work or to complete your online
work outside of the normal school hours. You need to keep in mind that in order to be
successful in an on-line course you will need to be motivated to succeed and have the
ability to work independantly. The course will extend topics covered in sociology as well
as new topics. Permission to register is required. See the Social Studies departments
chairperson before you register for this course. Thos course will appear on your schedule
as a zero hour.
