Child Development
There are three different Child Development courses offered at OSH:
1. Child Development: This course examines child development from conception to the age of three. Physical changes, intellectual development, social interaction and emotional development will be studied by investigating theories in Child development during infant and toddler years. Observation of young children who will visit the classroom will allow students to collect data and interpret this data relating to theory and behaviors.
2. Child Development LAB:
Students in this class operate a playschool for children ages 3-5. Teaching teams will plan and conduct activities for children, while studying child development. Through case studies, students observe human development and compare child development theories. This course provides hands-on experience for careers dealing with children as well as future parenting.
3. Exploring Childhood:
What are the issues affecting children today? How do parents and teachers meet the developmental needs of children? This course will address career possibilities, types of programs for children, and the development of school-age children. Students will choose areas of study based on individual interest in current topics such as: divorce, child abuse, cultural differences in parenting, and others.
