Child Development & Parenting:
How do parents affect children?
How do children affect parents?
This course examines child development from conception through age three. Observation of and interaction with young children and their parents allows students to apply what they learn in the classroom to real child and family situations. Parenting styles and issues are explored. This class is also a good introduction for both males and females interested in any career involving children, such as education, pediatrics, psychology, etc.
Child Development Lab:
Prerequisite: Child Development & Parenting OR Exploring Childhood.
How does early childhood education impact development?
Students in this class operate a playschool for children ages 3 to 5. Teaching teams will plan and conduct activities for children, while studying child development. Through case studies, students observe human development and compare developmental theories. This course provides hands on experiences for careers dealing with children as well as preparation for potential future parents.
Exploring Childhood:
What are the issues affecting children today?
How do parents and teachers meet the developmental needs of children?
This course will address career possibilities, types of programs for children, and the development of the school age child. Students will choose areas of study based on individual interest in current topics such as: divorce, child abuse, cultural differences in parenting and many more.
