Selection Process for National Honor Society

Forms

  1. A list is obtained of all students in grade eleven and twelve with a cumulative grade point average of 3.5 or higher.

  2. These students are contacted and asked to fill out the Student Information Form.

  3. Each faculty member is given a list of all academically eligible students and asked to rate the candidates on a scale of 1-4 in the areas of leadership, service, and character.

  4. The faculty council, made up of seven teachers on the present teaching staff, is responsible for the final selection of members.

  5. The objective ratings by the entire faculty and comments from faculty members are presented to the faculty council by the advisor. A discussion follows each presentation.

Each council member may vote YES, NO, or ABSTAIN. A student must receive a YES vote from at least 50% of the council members who vote on his/her membership to be asked to join the National Honor Society.

  6. The list of elected and non-elected students is presented to the Faculty Advisor of the National Honor Society. If there are any questions as to any elected or non-elected individual by the advisor, the view of the advisor is brought to the faculty council. A discussion involving the advisor and council is held with a re-vote taken by the council following the discussion. This vote is then final.
