Matt Malakowsky

COUNSELOR FOR LAST NAMES A - G

Mr. Malakowsky is in his first year as a counselor at MGJH.  Previously, he has been a substitute counselor at MGSH, worked in the Bloomington Public School District.  He was also an intern at MGJH in the counseling department.  He earned his B.A. in Psychology from St. Olaf College and his M.A. in Educational Psychology with an emphasis in School Counseling from the University of Minnesota.

Debbie McCormack

COUNSELOR FOR LAST NAMES H - O

Mrs. McCormack has been at MGJH since 1999. She was previously a counselor in San Antonio, TX for 10 years. She has additional teaching experience at the Junior and Senior High levels. She completed her B.S. in education from Mankato State University and her M.A. degree in Educational Psychology with an emphasis in school counseling at the University of Texas at San Antonio.

Katy Burns

COUNSELOR FOR LAST NAMES P - Z

Ms. Burns has been at MGJH since 2008.  She was previously a counselor in the Anoka-Hennepin School District.  She earned her B.A. in Sociology/Anthropology and Women’s Studies at St. Olaf College and her M.A. in School Counseling at the Adler Graduate School

Melissa Patterson

Mrs. Patterson has been at MGJH part-time since 2005.  Before that she was a Drug & Alcohol Prevention Counselor in Sioux Falls, South Dakota in the public schools for four years.  She received her B.A. in Psychology from the University of Sioux Falls, M.A. in Counseling and Educational Psychology from the University of South Dakota

Student Services

Academic Support:
Progress Reports- Peer Tutoring- Fish Class

New Students:
Counselors will assist new students to MGJH at the time of their enrollment and during their first few days of school.

Individual Counseling:
A student and his/her counselor will work together in solving immediate problems that interfere with health, personal, social, and educational development.

Testing:
Counselors help to prepare and plan for administering certain tests for students.

Counseling Groups:
Family Change Group, Grief & Loss Group, Serious Illness, Anger management, GTI Group/General Teen Issues, Concerned Persons Group

Student Leadership Groups:
*PROS (Positive Role Models Offering Support)
*Peer Mediation
*Student Council
*Peer Tutoring

* WEB (Where Everybody Belongs)- WEB's goal is to provide a structure in which students make real connections with each other. Through this program students learn that people at school care about them and their success. WEB is the junior high school transition program that will increase attendance, decrease discipline referrals and improve academic performance at your school.
