Age of Entrance
A student enrolling for kindergarten must be five years of age on September 1 of the school in which admission is requested.
If the student does not meet the age requirements for kindergarten, please explore our early childhood programs. See School Board Policy 549 for more information about age of entrance requirements.
Early Entrance To Kindergarten
A student who becomes five years of age on September 2 through November 1 of the school year for which admission is required may enroll in kindergarten based upon successful completion of the Early Entrance to Kindergarten process.
Early Childhood Screening

Screening is required prior to entering kindergarten and includes a check of your child's vision, hearing, and developmental progress. ISD 279 offers free screening at Arbor View Early Childhood Center, 9401 Fernbrook Lane, Maple Grove; and Zanewood Community School, 7000 Zane Avenue North, Brooklyn Park. Immunizations
Minnesota’s immunization law requires written proof that kindergartners have been immunized against the following diseases:
- diphtheria, pertussis, tetanus (DPT)
- measles, mumps, rubella (MMR)
- varicella (or history of chickenpox disease)
- polio (OPV and/or IPV)
- hepatitis B

Proof of Residency
You must show proof of residency when you register your child.
