Here are a few examples of what children will learn (or deepen their understanding of) in kindergarten:
Reading/Language Arts
- Develop an appreciation of books
- Express ideas
- Use D’Nealian handwriting to form letters and numbers
- Identify letters and print own name
- Read and pronounce sight words
Math
- Create and expand upon a pattern
- Sort and classify different objects and materials
- Compare and graph different objects
- Count and write numerals to 31 or higher
- Solve addition and subtraction problems
Science and Social Studies
- Develop an interest in areas such as five senses, trees and wood, weather and nature, animal habitat, and the environment
- Learn about the world, our country, and national holidays
Music
- Sing songs, play musical instruments
- Recognize high and low pitch
- Express mood through movement
Art
- Express ideas freely
- Demonstrate originality and creativity
- Develop knowledge and skills in color, line, shape, space and texture, and the use of different art media
