Winter 2013
Complete and return enrollment materials
You can download enrollment forms at www.district279.org, or complete the forms you’ll receive in the mail in January. Turn in your completed forms during regular office hours at any of our 17 elementary schools or the Enrollment Center, 7051 Brooklyn Boulevard, Brooklyn Center. The Enrollment Center offers a one-stop shop for enrollment, with an on-site immunization clinic and other services available.
If you’re interested in our national award-winning magnet schools (Birch Grove Elementary School for the Arts and Weaver Lake Elementary: A Science, Math & Technology School), be sure to apply online (www.nws.k12.mn.us/MagnetApp.html) by the priority application deadline of January 15.
Intra-district transfers and non-resident students are also urged to apply by January 15. Visit the Enrollment Center section of our website for additional information.

Schedule early childhood screening
Early Childhood Screening is required for entrance to kindergarten and is available at no cost to all children ages three through five. Screening includes a check of vision, hearing, and developmental progress; a review of immunizations and family information; and an individual consultation with parents regarding the child’s progress and any identified needs. Please call 763-391-8776 to schedule your appointment as soon as possible.

Attend Kindergarten Orientation in Spring 2013
Update your child’s immunizations
State law requires written proof that kindergartners have been immunized against: diphtheria, tetanus, pertussis (DTP); measles, mumps and rubella (MMR); polio; varicella (chicken pox); and hepatitis B. If you have questions about these immunizations or the free immunization clinic, please call our enrollment advisors at 763-585-7350.

Watch for your child’s half-day kindergarten assignment and transportation information
Transportation is provided to kindergarten students who live one-half mile or more from school; your child’s specific busing information will be mailed in late August 2013. Spend your summer reading to your child, practicing readiness skills, and preparing for your child’s exciting first day of school!
