Weaver Lake Elementary: A Science, Math & Technology School and Birch Grove Elementary School for the Arts are once again among the top magnet schools in the nation after earning the 2017 National Award of Excellence and the 2017 National Award of Distinction, respectively, from Magnet Schools of America.
Schools receiving awards are judged on their demonstrated ability to raise student achievement, promote racial and socioeconomic diversity, provide integrated curricula and instruction, and create strong family and community partnerships that enhance the school’s theme.
This is the tenth consecutive year that the Osseo Area Schools elementary STEM program has received a national award, while Birch Grove’s award marks the ninth time the arts school has been recognized by Magnet Schools of America.
Principals Dennis Palm (Weaver Lake) and Jeff Zastrow (Birch Grove) will receive their awards at Magnet Schools of America’s 35th National Conference in Los Angeles, Calif., next month.
