Dear Subscriber,

In the 2006-07 Minnesota Department of Education report 3,095,473 people of all ages, yes all ages birth to seniors, participated in a wide variety of programs to learn, engage in their community, grow and thrive. What impact does your Community Education program have in your community? One local artist credits her experience in a Community Education art class for providing her with the inspiration to explore a new skill. Today, Lisa Chudyba is a successful caricature artist in Maple Grove and you can read her story below.
For 4 years now, Community Education has been a leading partner in the Empty Bowls event which raises money to feed the hungry in our community. In addition, the Kidstop program has regular community service projects which have supported our students by providing backpacks and school supplies, toiletry kits for the Harriet Tubman Shelter and this summer will contribute toys to the Wish Wall at Children’s Hospital.
On Thursday, March 3 Community Education, student volunteers from North View Junior High IB World School and professional story teller Brian Poulton read bedtime stories to any child who simply called in. It was free and it provided a wonderful service that shares the joy of reading. This was the 3rd year of Dial-A-Story. In all over 1,000 stories have been read to children throughout our Osseo Area School district.
Community Education engages Minnesotans in their local schools, neighborhoods, businesses and community centers. Community Education offers programs for you that are close to home, an excellent value and offer unique opportunities.
