Weaver Lake Elementary students grades 3 - 6 competed in the NFL Gatorade Punt, Pass, and Kick contest on September 19and 20. The students pictured above finished in the top 3 for their age bracket. The 1st place winners of this local competition move on and compete at the Sectional Competition on October 6 at Blaine High School against all of the other local winners. District 279 Physical Education Curriculum Goal Statement The purpose of physical education is to provide students the opportunity to acquire the skills needed to make positive choices about a healthy, physically active lifestyle. Students attend physical education every other day for 30 minutes in grades 1-6. Kindergarten students attend class for a total of 30 minutes every 6 school days. During this time we will be working on the physical education themes of: Body Control, Fitness, Propelling, Receiving and Striking. Weaver Lake Physical Education staff is as follows: Ward Miller: Grades K, 2, 3, 4, 5, and DAPEMelissa Elias: Grades 1, 3, 6, and DAPERobin Gillispie: Grade K In addition, our staff also teaches various sections of Development/Adapted Physical Education. Reminders: We would like to remind families that students are to wear appropriate tennis shoes during class no platform shoes or hiking boots please. Students may want to keep a pair of tennis shoes at school in their lockers for this purpose. Keep the Health Services Specialist informed of any medical needs that your child may have. Any child needing to be excused from physical education activity will need a parent note indicating the reason. Expended time out of class requires a doctors note. TEACHING FAIR PLAY 10 SPORTSMANSHIP TIPS YOU CAN TEACH YOUR CHILD 1. Offer praise and encouragement for effort, even if you child makes a mistake. 2. Offer constructive criticism and help you child practice skills. 3. Remember that your child is playing the sport not you. 4. Try not to impose your goals or standards on your youngster. 5. Applaud good plays by both teams. 6. Give a compliment when your youngster shows good sportsmanship. 7. Emphasize that "having fun is number one." 8. Don't yell at coaches, referees, or players.
