Computer Acceptable Use Policy
Updated: Friday, May 30, 2008
Reminder about expected procedures monitoring computer use:
It is expected that the following procedures be in place to support the Acceptable Use Policy (the following is an update to procedures sent to principals sent in 1999 & 2004 by LS Finsness):
- Each classroom teacher using a lab completes a seating chart template. The Library Media Specialist may provide this template. A copy of the seating chart is on file in the Media Center.
- Students work at their assigned workstation at all times, logging on with their SAN information.
- Students are accountable for the activity that occurs at their assigned workstation during the period that they are working in the lab.
- If a workstation is out of order, the relocation of students to another workstation will be consistent throughout the period the student’s assigned workstation is out of commission and noted on the seating chart.
- It is the shared responsibility of the classroom teacher and Library Media Specialist to maintain updated seating charts.
- Open labs or general use computer stations must have a sign-in system in order to track students.
- An adult must be present in the room whenever elementary students use a computer.
- We will notify students through the fall discipline talks in September. We will require 4 th – 6 th grade students and parents to sign-off on a memo of understanding regarding district and building Internet policies.
Expected consequences for Internet misuse by students :
* Offenses include but are not limited to: video or audio streaming w/o permission AND supervision; attempting to visit pornography or social sites (similar to MySpace.com); Instant Messaging; visiting Internet sites w/o permission AND supervision. The severity of the action may result in an immediate jump to third offense.
- First Offense = Verbal warning and noted in Media Center Internet Consequences Log; email to parties who need to know (classroom teachers/office/media center staff).
- Second Offense = Two weeks OFF of any school district computer and noted in Media Center Internet Consequences Log; phone call to parents; email to parties who need to know (classroom teachers/office/media center staff).
- Third Offense = No computer use for remainder of school year; only exception may be Accelerated Reader if taken in their classroom with teacher supervision; noted in Media Center Internet Consequences Log; phone call to parents; email to parties who need to know (classroom teachers/office/media center staff).
