Dolphin Garden City ElementaryDolphin

4th Grade Webquest

Introduction

The 4th grade teachers are planning vacations.  However, we need some help.  Everyone agrees that we need to go somewhere, but we can’t agree where to go to the same place.  So, we would like some help picking our destination.

Here are some things you need to know:

Ms. Engle loves big cities.  She would like to see theatrical performances, walk/picnic in famous parks, shop, visit statues/monuments, and see the ocean.  She also wants warm weather, exciting atmosphere, and variety of dining options. She’d like to maybe spot a celebrity.

Mr. Wieser would like to swim in the ocean, go whale watching, visit zoos, go shopping, look at architecture, attend a sporting event, visit family, or drive around the area sight seeing.

Mr. Pearson loves to be outdoors.  He would like to visit state and national parks, play golf, and attend an outdoor sporting event.  He would prefer to go to some place that is not really hot.  He doesn’t mind that it is cold, but he still wants to be outside.

Mr. Smith can’t wait to see historic sights, dine out, visit museums, attend local festivals, and explore live music

Ms. Shannon would like to go to the beach, eat at a nice restaurant near the ocean, go to an art museum, go to a concert, and visit friends.

Ms. Cobb wants to visit a small city, a lot of things to do within walking distance, that has gardens, parks, and an art museum. For her, some rain is okay, but she would avoid the rainiest times of year

Ms. Erdman needs hot weather, by an ocean.  She would like to be able to swim with the dolphins, and snorkel.  Her place must have palm trees and lots of colorful plants and flowers.

As you can see, every person wants something different when they go on vacation.  We all want our vacations to be perfect, but we can’t decide where to go.  Please help!!!

Task

Your task is to help plan us plan our next vacation.  You will be responsible for reading about each destination.  Next, you will have to choose a teacher and the destination that will best suit their wishes.  While you are researching this destination, you will be responsible for planning fun activities and exciting places to visit while they are there.  You will also be responsible for planning the vacation to match the best time of year for them to visit, according to weather and scheduled events.

Process

Here are the destinations that you can choose from:

Clicking on the name of your city above will bring you to a search page with information about that city.
Click here for a list of all of the professional sports teams.  You will need to search for your city

One thing that may help you decide is to give us information about the weather:

Please gather the average monthly temperature information for your city.  You will need to click on the name of your city.  Once you find the information, record it on your note taking sheet.

Use the data gathering sheet to help you.  It has clear directions for each step and tables where you can record the information.

After gathering your information, you will need to write a letter to the teacher whose vacation you planned.

This letter needs to include:

Their destination city and your rationale for choosing that destination for them.
The activities that you have planned for them while they are there.  The activities should include a brief description of what they will be doing and why you think they should do that activity.  Be sure to include some weather information (high/low temperature, precipitation, natural disasters, etc.).

* Be sure to choose the city you think we would like best based on the activities we enjoy, not the city YOU would like to visit. *
