January 8, 2007

• Welcome and Introductions

Members present: Todd Tischer, Amy Watkins, Betsy Eernisse, Michelle Leopoldt, and Nancy Martinsen

• Approval of Minutes

Minutes for Nov. 6, 2006 approved

• Family Project

4 staff members went to day long training

They want to set up a family night where families determine the meeting topics.

The first meeting will be Feb. 8. It will be a mixer with food and daycare.

The purpose is to engage families and build better families and communities

• TEAM UP update

The team has been focusing on language objectives both personally and teaching the staff about using language objectives.

Literacy night is scheduled for March 1 st, planning is in the works

Reading challenge will again be held in Feb.

Applying for an NEA grant to continue funding TEAM UP since old grant will end this year.

• Student Improvement Plan Goals

Reviewed 05-06 goals

New goals:

1. To increase the reading achievement of all Garden City students, focusing on closing the gap between LEP students and all others.

2. To improve parent and community involvement at Garden City.

• Membership Vacancies

Pang Vang is no longer available

2 more parent members are still needed

Betsy will talk to K, 1, 2 nd grade teachers to ask parents during conferences

Todd will add announcement in the newsletter

Betsy will make up a flyer to distribute.

• Priorities for compensatory Funding

Let’s think ahead as to how we wish to focus the money in the future. What are the priorities? Ideas include:

-family liaison

-bilingual ESP

-full time cultural liaison

-grant writer

• Additional Items

Where does the Target money go (Target credit cards with % donated to designated school)? How is it spent?

How can we get more Target money? Grants?

Can we look into the retired teacher grant writers? How do we hook into them?
